Tile Roofers In Wellington Point

Licensed Tile Roofers In Wellington Point

Storm Call Roofing provides tile roof repairs, tile roof restorations, roof replacement and roof installation across Wellington Point. Working on a bayside roof is not quite the same as working a few suburbs inland, and tiled roofs are what we do, so the advice you get accounts for both.

We look after houses, unit complexes and commercial buildings, and we work with body corporates, strata managers and property managers as well as owners. Every inspection comes with a free quote and a plain explanation of what we found.

About Wellington Point

Wellington Point is a bayside suburb in Redland City, built around the foreshore, the jetty and the reserve that looks out to King Island. It is a mix of older coastal homes, solid brick and tile family houses from the 1970s onward, and newer builds closer to the water.

What sets roofing here apart is the exposure. The suburb takes the easterlies straight off Moreton Bay, and that wind carries salt. Salt does not trouble a concrete or terracotta tile much, but it is hard on everything metal around it, which on a tiled roof means the valley irons, the flashings, the gutters, the downpipes and every fixing holding it all together.

The same wind that carries the salt also gets under loose ridge capping. On an exposed bayfront roof, capping that has started to let go will move a great deal more than the same capping would three suburbs inland.

Common Tile Roof Problems On Wellington Point Homes

The pattern of faults on a Wellington Point roof is driven by wind and salt more than by anything else.

  • Corrosion in valley irons, flashings, gutters and downpipes, accelerated by salt carried off the bay
  • Ridge capping lifting or shifting where the pointing has cracked and the wind has got under it
  • Wind driven rain pushing in under tiles and around flashings during easterly weather
  • Tiles slipping out of line after strong winds, particularly along exposed ridges and edges
  • Porous tiles holding moisture, which shows up as damp patches and encourages moss
  • Rusted fixings and brackets, which can leave gutters sagging or pulling away

On a bayside roof the metal is almost always what goes first. Tiles can be decades old and still sound while the valleys and flashings around them have quietly rusted through.

Salt Air And A Bayside Tiled Roof

Salt air does its damage slowly and out of sight. It settles on the roof, and where it is not washed off by rain, it sits in the places that stay damp the longest, which tends to be exactly where the metal is.

That is why we pay particular attention to valleys and flashings on an inspection here, and why we will often recommend dealing with them before anything cosmetic. A roof can be cleaned, sealed and looking excellent while a rusted valley continues to let water into the roof cavity underneath.

A tile roof restoration still makes good sense on a bayside home. Replacing broken tiles, re-bedding and repointing the capping and sealing the tiles gives the roof back its weather resistance, and sealed tiles shed salt laden water rather than holding it. The point is simply that on this part of the bay the metalwork needs to be part of the conversation, not an afterthought.
